Kia ora, I’ve nearly finished the reworked version of my novel The Snowball Waltz.

Luckily, Penguin NZ found the file (and very generously) gave it to me so I didn’t have to type it all out again.

Miriam, the Magician, made the old file workable, and there I was. Oh the power.

My first thought was that I’d read it through then hand it on to Miriam to make it behave itself on WednesdayBusk. So I started reading and immediately saw stuff I wanted to rework. Should I or shouldn’t I? That was the question.

Should I go back and rework the past? Oh if only. Yeah yeah, politicians do it all the time but this needed thinking about.

It’s generally frowned on to rework a published novel but what the hell – Mae West said the best thing to do with temptation is give in – so I did.

I have had the most exhilarating few weeks – you see since Snowball was published, Porohiwi, the town that features in it has, by some mysterious means, moved from the East Coast to the tag end of the Kapiti Coast – which means it not only zipped across the North Island but down the road and around the corner sort of. I know darlings – but that’s what happened. I have no explanation of this extraordinary event nor can I explain why it wasn’t picked up by TV or headlined on RadioNZ’s Morning Report.

The main street now has a different name from the one it used to have – naturally I had to bring the earlier one into line.

Well I did darlings – you must see that.

I admit I changed (just a little) one of the minor storylines but hey, I’d never been quite happy with it and now was my chance to have another go.

I wanted to put Snowball up on WednesdayBusk because it has characters (Souvie and others), an organisation (the Porohiwi Players) that all feature in the later novels Too Many Cooks, Once Bitten and the one I’m currently writing, No Good Crying. I wanted readers to enjoy some of the not so salubrious history of the town, and the Players.

So on a Wednesday one week soon (maybe 2 weeks) The Snowball Waltz (Take 2) will be up a chapter a week on WednesdayBusk.

In the meantime you can enjoy Too Many Cooks and Once Bitten as ebooks you can download, or Once Bitten will still be able to be read in chapters for a couple of weeks.

On with the dance…
