Kia ora koutou, a year or so ago I got hearing aids. I got rechargable ones because I can’t see the little tiny batteries for the battery–charged ones and I preferred the idea of rechargable anyway.

I don’t like wearing hearing aids but they work. They’re a real nuisance when I comb my hair because they’re flicked so easily with the comb. This is not simply carelessness or haste but probably a waste of time because I can’t see my face clearly unless I’m in the bathroom and looking at this flash new ‘makeup mirror’ one of my sons got for me after an electrician recommended it.

I’ve always been a slow learner of things I don’t want to learn and this comb and hearing aid clash is no exception. So there I go, in a hurry and oops, it happens again and I’m peering at the floor trying to find the hearing aid. Swearing  seems to help.

They are a pain to put to bed at night in their little recharging box too because the box is black and so is the cord. The cord keeps slipping out and its hard to put it back because the cord is black and I’m putting it back into black. I peer at it as I hold both cord and container under the white light from the lamp I bought from Blind and Low Vision NZ.

Why can’t the manufacturers use a colour other than black? Given that their main client base is in the older age group wouldn’t you think they would realise most of us would have other issues as well? Like poor eyesight?

This afternoon a friend came in with a magnifying glass which has a cord you stick around your neck. Thus is perfect for reading the backs of packets and Edmunds Cook Book. I’m looking for a good recipe for ginger biscuits, nice crispy ones. I make Anzac biscuits still but I’ve made so many batches I could almost make them in my sleep.

I think this magnifying glass will help with the hearing aids box. Being able to have my hands free is a bonus.

Any of you got a recipe for good ginger biscuits?
